SSR Meeting Minutes (2003-01-07)
- Members Robert Abernathy, Mark Bottjer, Camille Scielzi, Debbie Dennis, Mike Dennis, Fred Yarger, Kim Schaffer, Cathy Perini, Matt Perini, Linda Giesen, and Gerry Strathman were present.
- SSR still intends to organize a fund-raising 5K race for ASAP on March 8th. Matt has not made any progress in organizing this event. A committee consisting of Matt, Camille, Cathy, Fred, and Bill was formed. We have word from Jackie Kraft of APAS that they will seek sponsors. Matt needs to confirm RRCA insurace coverage, and verify that runners with dogs can be allowed. Cathy will call Jackie and start working on a flyer/entry form design. There will be an APAS meeting on 1/14 that will be attended by Camille, Matt, and Fred.
- The starting time of the final handicap run of the "Fall" series will be moved to 5PM on Tuesday, January 14.
- Results of the club officer elections for the year 2003:
- President - Robert Abernathy
- Vice President - Cathy Perini
- Secretary/Treasurer - Matt Perini
- The American Cancer Society's Socorro Relay For Life event will be
held June 6-7. SSR will not be holding the San Marcial Time Trial
because of lack of interest. Camille reports that we should not expect
much support from the Trex Enterprises group. Camille repeated her
earlier suggestion that we hold a swim-a-thon as a fundraiser. One
possibility is an event held on a Saturday morning where the swimmer
swims laps for pledges during a fixed time period. Matt will talk to
Tech's Valerie DelCurto about the possibility of using the Tech pool
for the event.
- Fred Yarger volunteered to be race director for the triathlon on
the promise that it will only be for one year. A committee was formed
consisting of Fred, Matt, Cathy, Kim, and Bill, and a motion was made
and passed to give the committee the authority to make decisions for
SSR regarding the triathlon. Robert pointed out that the WSMR Roadrunner Triathlon has taken second weekend in August, which is supposed to be the date for the Socorro triathlon. Matt will contact Flip Lyle to see what's going on.
- Mark Bottjer volunteered to be the coordinator for the Fat Tire Fiesta. A committee was formed, consisting of Mark, Camille, Matt, Robert, Fred, and Kim, and a motion was made and passed to give the committee the authority to make decisions for SSR regarding the Fiesta. The Chamber of Commerce is not seeking City of Socorro sponsorship for the event, and so SSR will request that the city put a line item in the FY2004 budget for both the triathlon and Fiesta. Camille thinks that the $1500 that they gave last year would also be sufficient this year. The city budget hearings begin in March. A planning meeting for the triathlon and the Fiesta will be held on January 23.
- The February meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 4. A suggestion was made to start holding meetings at 6PM if possible. Robert will look into using a room on the Tech campus for future meetings.
