City of Socorro Pet Ordinances
Persons
owning dogs, cats or domestic ferrets three months of
age
or over shall
have the animal(s)
vaccinated for
rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
The rabies vaccination must be renewed each year unless, of
course, you have obtained a 3-year rabies vaccine for your pet.
This is actually a New Mexico state law.
After
having your pet
vaccinated for rabies, persons
owning dogs and cats within the City of Socorro must also have them
licensed. An annual dog license is approximately $5.00 and an
annual cat license is approximately $2.50. Citizens over 62 years
of age can obtain an annual cat or dog license for $2.00.
Licenses are
available
at either veterinary clinic in Socorro or at City of Socorro offices.
Make sure
your
pet wears the license tag on a collar.
Persons
shall not allow domestic animals
in their custody to stray or persistently or continuously bark, howl,
or yowl. Please contact Animal Control at 835-0240 or 838-3103 to report
disturbances or stray animals.
Domestic animals should be
provided shelter, food, and
water, or other care necessary to maintain an animal's health.A complete copy of Animal Control Ordinances is available from the City of Socorro.
