Brine Shrimp Eggs

I have found that the best hatching results for Great Salt Lake artemia eggs is by using water with a pH of about 8.0 and containing 98 grams (about 3.5 oz.) of pure (pickling) salt per gallon. (My water here in central New Mexico is about 50 ppm hardness and has a pH of 8.3 out of the tap.)

At a temperature of 75 degrees F. I get a 100% hatch in about 36 hours. I use San Francisco Brand hatching cones, which may or may not be available any longer.

The manufacturer recommends removing the desiccant pack within the can - I don't. As recommended, I punch a small hole in the top of the can with a screw driver, pour only as much cysts (eggs) as I will need for a week or two into a small jar, cap the large can and store it in a freezer.

Good Luck and Tanks,
