First of all, congratulations to the couple on your upcoming wedding. This guide is designed to help answer the questions you might have about getting married in the Catholic Church. Know that the Sacrament of Marriage is one of seven grace filled moments that Jesus Christ instituted to help us in our journey of faith here on earth. Marriage is one of the biggest commitments that a person makes in their lives and it should never be entered into lightly. In marrying in the Church not only are you proclaiming an undying love that you have for your future spouse, but you are also opening your marriage up to God's Grace and the support of the Church. What follows are a few thoughts to help you prepare for your wedding day.
Make sure that you contact the Parish Office to set up a meeting with the Pastor. The wedding date and time will be set at this time, along with the rehearsal date and time. This needs to be done 4 to 6 months before the wedding. The Bride and Groom both need to be at this meeting.
The Marriage Preparation Program here at San Miguel consists of 4 to 5 meetings with the Pastor and attending a Marriage Enrichment or Marriage Encounter weekend. After attending the weekend a Certificate from that weekend needs to be given to the Pastor so that it can be included in your Marriage file.
The Bride and Groom also need to provide a recent copy of their Baptismal Certificate to the Pastor. These are not to be photocopies and must be issued no more than three months before the Parish receives them. These Certificates are needed for the Marriage file
The Marriage License needs to be brought to the Parish Office no later then one week before the wedding, along with the names of the Maid of Honor and the Best Man.
Now just a little information about the Wedding Ceremony. Camera's are allowed at the wedding and pictures can be taken during the service. Camera's are not allowed on the Altar area.
As for music it should be sacred/religious in nature. A Secular song could be used after Communion for Meditation.
A $25 donation is what the Church requests for the Wedding preparation and for the lighting, -cooling, and heating bills.
As for the Ceremony, you will be given
a book that has the options for the
readings, vows, and prayers. Please
take sometime to look at the options
and fill out the option sheet that is with
the book and give this sheet to the
Priest or Deacon that will be the
Celebrate of your wedding.
A Wedding is one of the most profound
events that a Christian will go through
in His or Her life, it is an event that
marks the beginning of Married life as
well as an event that proclaims the love
that a couple has for one another and
for God.
It is necessary that at least one member of the couple be a baptized Catholic, hopefully Confirmed in the faith, receiving Holy Communion, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This may seem to be a lot, yet this is the ordinary life of a practicing Catholic.
